Matthew Dasneves is an architect and designer-maker based in Cape Town. His design studio is set up as an explorative space for research and making, producing small runs of limited edition work focusing on furniture and objects.
For Cape Town Furniture Week 2024, Matthew Dasneves is exhibiting a collection of vases in PR0T0, an official CTFW exhibition for concepts, prototypes and collectible design pieces. The vases are part of an ongoing series exploring caulking, a process traditionally used on construction sites. Each vase is hand made using offcut polystyrene, which is carved and assembled into functional forms after which they are then encased and sealed by extruding beads of caulk(rubber) over the polystyrene formwork. The vases are waterproof, shatterproof and no two pieces are the same.
