A presentation of Tonic's Autumn '25 furniture collection at their beautiful Kloof Street showroom.
For over 25 years, the work of Philippe van der Merwe and Greg Gamble’s interior-architectural and furniture practice, Tonic, has occupied a very particular position in the design landscape – always underplayed, carefully controlled and able to transcend time and place, yet evocative of something so originally South African.
From quintessential pieces like the Hawker bench, HG cabinet and AF 003 server, to interior programmes designed for Babylonstoren, Constitution Hill and The Newt Garden Café in Somerset, their philosophy is informed as much by time-honoured production techniques as by technical innovation – resulting in a body of work that lies somewhere between form, function and feeling.
